Hello, I am Tejash Hira and I
started became a Facebook addict on June 8, 2008. I made the account that day
and didn’t really get into it until about a year later, a month before the
first day of my high school career. I saw my brother on Facebook one day and I
had no clue what it was until he told me. So I joined in because it was the
thing that everyone kept talking about. I didn’t really know what to do with it
because I never had a MySpace and wasn’t into those kind of things. But I got
into it so much that I would sit on there for an hour or two updating my
information for no reason. I even tried to think of some of the funniest
statuses or the funniest comments so that I could use to get peoples attention.
I loved it a lot. I would search for all
my friends on there to see if they had one and was really excited if they did. I
got into it a lot more than I should have. I was a real Facebook addict but I
was not the only one.
(Mark Zuckerberg)
Facebook is a social networking
website that was created February 2004 by a man named Mark Zuckerberg and a few
of his friends. On August 26, 2008 Facebook had reached its 100 millionth user.
It seems like it took a long time for them to get that 100 millionth since it
started in February 2004 but no one really knew what Facebook was. I didn’t
know what it was until 4 years later. In 2008 Facebook was in a good position
for making money. That summer, Facebook was predicted to reach 200 million
active users by the end of this year. Facebook was adding between 600,000 and
700,000 users per day, making it most likely to hit the 200 million mark in
March. Also, as of June 2012, Facebook had reached its 955 millionth user, with
526 million active users out there. That’s about one seventh of the world’s
population at Facebook, making Facebook the most visited website, previously
second behind MySpace. In 2010, Facebook went mobile, allowing users to operate
their Facebook accounts from their phone.
(Me being weird)
That was the first Facebook profile
picture I had and yes I know I am weird. I took it from my moms phone and I
have no clue why I made that face. After putting that as my profile picture
I’ve been told that I am very silly but I like it and probably won’t ever
change. I never really uploaded many pictures unless it was a worthy picture
that would get peoples attentions.
(My farm that I spent a lot of my time on)
The main thing I did on Facebook
was play games on there. I was addicted to Farmville and it became all I played.
Facebook had all kinds of things for people to do such as joining groups with
similar interests as you, inviting people to events, playing games, listening
to music, chatting with friends, or sharing videos and photos. There are also many
more but those are just a few. What I found appealing was that you could
connect to people that you normally don’t see everyday. I didn’t get a phone until
my sophomore year of high school and that sucked because I really couldn’t get
a hold of anyone but Facebook gave me a way to do that. But I could send a
message to someone off Facebook and it would send that exact message to that
persons phone and they could reply back quickly so that I wouldn’t have to wait
for them to log onto their Facebook to see the message.
I barely spend 10 minutes on there
unless I need to talk to someone that I cant get a hold of another way. But
when I first joined Facebook I’d spend about 2 to 3 hours a day on there. I’d
either be searching for friends, updating my status, or playing Farmville. I
once saw one of my friends status’s and I felt like pissing her off so I
decided to try and reach 1000 comments on it, Facebook banned me from posting
or commenting for a week or two, it was totally worth it. I was a real Facebook
addict and I once got yelled at for getting on Facebook instead of doing my
homework.
One of the main reasons I probably
spent that much time on there was because that’s all people talked about at
school, John did this and Kate did that, was just the hottest thing out at that
time. But now I just log on there to see what’s up or to avoid awkward moments.
Ill talk to people on there some times but not everyday of my life like I used
to. Just not into it as much as I used to be. When I joined my parents were
very protective over my Facebook. They set my privacy to where only my friends
could see what I was doing. There were some crazy people on MySpace and it
wouldn’t take them that long to get to Facebook.
(This is a picture of my family and the last picture I uploaded to Facebook)
Around towards the end of my junior
year I stopped using my Facebook and moved onto Twitter. I am proud to say that
I don’t use Facebook as much as I used to, it was a big distraction for me. Anything
I do with Facebook is seeing whose birthday it is and what’s going on in
people’s lives. But I do get on to talk to some friends that went I probably
wont see again because they went out of state for school or joined the army. I
don’t really update my status anymore because I usually just tweet what’s on my
mind. I probably wont deactivate my account because of all the memories I had
on there and don’t want to lose them.
